Manny is a west highland white terrier (commonly known as a westie) and was born on August 1, 2006. Like most westies, Manny is highly energetic, athletic and intelligent.

For the first seven months of Manny's life, everything appeared normal for our growing puppy. But suddenly Manny's hind right leg started giving him trouble and he was quickly diagnosed with Legg-Perthes Disease and required significant surgery.

While the prognosis for Manny is very good - there was very little information available to us regarding Legg-Perthes disease, the surgery, and the recovery period. By chronicling Manny's experiences via this blog, I hope to help other dog owners in their battles with this spreading disease.
